Recommended Mercedes Service Schedule

A Mercedes-Benz is reliable. That’s why you see so many around Atlanta, both new and classic. But to keep them reliable, you have to take care of them. See our recommended Mercedes Maintenance and Service Schedule below:

1.

Lubrication Service

At least every 5,000 miles

NOTE: If you do a lot of city-driving, Atlanta Autohaus Inc. recommends performing this service at least every 2,500 to 3,000 miles.

  • Change oil and oil filter; use 5-W-50 synthetic or high-grade 20-W-50 motor oil.
  • Inspect and correct fluid level:
    • Battery; check battery for leaks.
    • Radiator
    • Brake system
    • Windshield washer
    • Automatic or manual transmission
  • Lubricate:
    • Engine throttle linkages rods
  • Check engine throttle linkage rods and shafts for wear and tear and full range of motion.
  • Inspect:
    • Tires
    • Wheels
    • Brakes
    • Suspension system
    • V-belts
    • Hoses
    • Air filter
  • Inspect:
    • Windshield wiper motor, assembly and blade(s)
    • Headlights
    • Fog lights
    • Parking lights
    • Turn indicators
    • Running lights
    • Emergency blinkers
    • Horn
    • Interior lights
    • Radio and antenna

Maintenance Service

At least every 15,000 miles

NOTE: See section 3 below for additional service required at 30,000 mile intervals.

  • Change oil and oil filter; use 5-W-50 synthetic or high-grade 20-W-50 motor oil.
  • Inspect for leaks:
    • Engine and fuel system
    • Automatic or manual transmission
    • Clutch control
    • Rear transmission axle
    • Steering, power steering pump, lines and hoses
    • Shock absorbers
    • Cooling and heating system
  • Inspect and correct fluid level:
    • Engine cooling system
    • Automatic or manual transmission; clutch control
    • Level control
    • Rear axle
    • Brake system
    • Power steering
    • Battery
    • Windshield washer
    • Air conditioner and automatic climate control
  • Lubricate:
    • Engine throttle linkage rods and shafts
    • Door hinges
    • Door locks
    • Hood
  • Engine and electrical system:
    • Adjust valve clearances (on diesel and turbocharged diesel engines).
    • Inspect:
      • Turbocharger (on turbocharged diesel engines)
      • Glow plugs (on diesel and turbocharged diesel engines)
      • Spark plugs (on gasoline engines)
      • Ignition system
      • Air filter
      • V-belts; re-tighten as necessary
      • Cooling and heating system
      • Fuse box and fuses
      • Air conditioning
      • Engine throttle linkage rods and shafts
  • Chassis, body and other systems:
    • Inspect:
      • Body and paint
      • Windshield condition
      • Undercarriage and undercoating
      • Front-axle ball joints and rubber boots
      • Shock absorbers
      • Springs
    • Remove wheels.
    • Inspect:
      • Wheel rims
      • Brake system
      • Brake pad thickness
      • Rotor condition
      • Parking brake; adjust as necessary
    • Clean disc brakes.
    • Check tires for damage and wear patterns.
    • Adjust tire pressure as necessary.
    • Rotate tires as necessary.
    • Check steering for free play or looseness.
    • Inspect steering linkage for wear and tear.
    • Retighten steering mounting as necessary.
    • Check seat belts and passive restraints for damage.
    • Check fuel tank cap for damage.
  • Inspect:
    • Windshield wiper motor, assembly and blade(s)
    • Headlights
    • Fog lights
    • Parking lights
    • Turn indicators
    • Running lights
    • Emergency blinkers
    • Horn
    • Interior lights
    • Radio and antenna
  • Road test vehicle.

Additional Service

At least every 30,000 miles

  • Change automatic transmission fluid.
  • Inspect and adjust engine idle.
  • Inspect fuel injection timing.
  • Inspect fuel pre-filter.
  • Inspect fuel filter.
  • Replace air filter.
  • Inspect V-belts; retighten as necessary.
  • Inspect clutch plate for wear and tear.
  • Inspect flex discs and propeller shaft for wear and tear.
  • Inspect brake cables and parking brake.
4.

Additional Service

At least once per year (preferably in spring)

  • Replace brake fluid.
  • Replace windshield wiper blade(s).
  • Clean water drains.
  • Clean and lightly lubricate sunroof rails and sliding blocks.
  • Inspect:
    • Windshield wiper motor and assembly
    • Headlights
    • Fog lights
    • Parking lights
    • Turn indicators
    • Running lights
    • Emergency blinkers
    • Horn
    • Interior lights
    • Radio and antenna
5.

Additional Service

At least every three years

  • Flush and re-fill radiator.

Additional Service

Interval varies

  • Replace timing chain.

NOTE: Timing chain replacement varies according to year and model. Proper engine timing is critical to the life of your vehicle. If your car has over 50,000 miles on it, don’t put off this ultra-important service.
